We Need a MAPS 4 Agreement All Residents Can Benefit From

"Holt said last week OKC voters could be asked to extend the penny sales tax that is funding MAPS 4 when it expires in 2028 to fund a new arena home for the OKC Thunder. . . .

VOICE was involved in supporting MAPS 4 human and community-centered projects like mental health facilities, upgrades to neighborhood parks, sidewalks and youth centers.

Now, the group is hoping to see an agreement that all Oklahoma City residents can benefit from.

'The people of Oklahoma City are paying this tax and many families cannot afford to attend a Thunder game and in many cases cannot afford to watch the Thunder on TV,' one of the group's leaders Maureen Harvey said in a statement to The Oklahoman. 'We need to see transparency and we need to know we won’t be voting on a done deal. We would like to see community benefits attached to it, like paying workers a living wage.'"
